Calvary Episcopal and Pinellas Suncoast Fire and
Rescue, begin Youth Sailing Program’s Second Year
Calvary Episcopal Church and Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue are teaming up once again to offer free sailing lessons for local children ages 7 - 16.
Calvary Episcopal Church will provide its classroom space, dock, and a fleet of 10 Sailboats (Walker Bay 8's) which were donated last year by area business leaders with the assistance of West Marine. Instructors are all volunteers from the Church and the Fire Department, and the "rescue/instruction" boat is being provided by Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue.
The program is dedicated to providing instruction and hands-on experience that will teach young people from the Fire District basic sailing, seamanship and navigation skills. Classes will run for six sessions, from 9 AM - Noon, beginning on Thursday June 6th. The program was very successful last year and as a result, only several openings remain, and therefore it’s now "first come first served."
