MAKING A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN OTHER PEOPLES' LIVES
All too often, when people make a decision to do things they believe will motivate others to be the very best they can be at what they do, it’s misinterpreted by many who feel challenged, threatened, misled, blowing their own horn, or just letting people know you can make accomplishments your way.
Not so with members of the Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District, many of whom belong to Union Local 3206, who were looking for the opportunity to enhance their members and department personnel and provide an enhanced image by selecting a symbol that provides the perception of how they can perform their everyday duties and responsibilities. They collectively decided on the “Tasmanian Devil” logo.
The reason being that this creature is a small, ferocious, extreme and intense animal. We collectively, are a small department in size, with 45 employees and 22 volunteers. We operate out of a Mainland Station “Oakhurst #28; a Beach Station “Indian Rocks #27"; and a Redington Beach Station “Redington #26". Our “ferocious” side is identified as “extreme”, that which we recognize as being removed from the ordinary or average fire service provided. Our constant motivation is pro-active, rather than re-active. Based on our knowledge, attitude, skills and habits, we find it is more beneficial to prevent accidents, injuries, loss of life and property by performing public education prevention programs, building codes, sprinklers, smoke detectors, alarm systems, enforcement, quality people, apparatus, and equipment.
What’s just as important, is that when called up to be reactive, because someone, or something, went wrong affecting those whom we accepted as our responsibility, we become very “intense” with great strength, strong feelings and high emotion. To bring whatever concern or emergency of those affected may have to closure, by whatever means possible using our Team Concept Training, Education, Attitude, Management.
Our people are Trained to high levels of proficiency in use and practices of new technology in apparatus, tools, appliances, techniques, search, rescue and medical practices.
Our Education is on going with local, state, national and federal regulations governing acceptance or certifications.
Our Attitude is above reproach with self-motivation, character, honesty, integrity, loyalty, honor and accomplishments.
Our Management is self-imposed by each individual on what is prudent, acceptable, legal and applied equally across the board. Our mission is ever changing based on the challenges of our profession, be it career or volunteer. We are leaders, not followers, striving to be the very best we can be at what we do.
For those whose presence is within our reach, you are in the good hands of the “Tasmanian Devil”, Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District, and members of Local 3206 IAFF.
